Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Disorders

Urogynecology is a subspecialty of gynecology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in women. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support the bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum. When these structures weaken or are injured, it can lead to a range of conditions collectively known as pelvic floor disorders.

Common pelvic floor disorders include urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, and voiding dysfunction. These conditions can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life, leading to physical discomfort, emotional distress, and social limitations.

Urogynecologists are specially trained to offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options tailored to each patient's condition and lifestyle. Treatments may involve pelvic floor physical therapy, medications, pessary devices, or minimally invasive surgical procedures.
