Gynecology and Obstetrics

Gynecology and Obstetrics is a medical specialty focused on the health and care of the female reproductive system and pregnancy. While often grouped together, each field has its own area of expertise:

• Obstetrics deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Obstetricians monitor the health of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and are trained to manage complications, perform deliveries (vaginal and cesarean), and provide postnatal care.

• Gynecology focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders related to the female reproductive system, including the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and breasts. Gynecologists also handle issues such as menstruation, fertility, contraception, and menopause.

Many physicians are trained in both areas and are referred to as Obstetrician-Gynecologists (OB-GYNs). They provide comprehensive care for women's reproductive health at all stages of life.
